Electric Bike and Scooter Charging Safety

The rising popularity of e-bikes and e-scooters has raised concerns among strata property owners and tenants regarding the increased fire risk associated with faulty Lithium-ion batteries.

In January 2024, investigators from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) confirmed that a fire in North Bondi resulted from a malfunctioning Lithium-ion battery. The investigation revealed that an e-bike battery left on charge in a bedroom was the source of ignition. It underscores the importance of proper handling and awareness when dealing with these batteries in residential settings. Please see the e-bike safety sheet.
